IBA Law Student
Scholarship Foundation

  • Background

    The IBA Law Student Scholarship Foundation (the “Foundation”) was established in July, 2003 in memory of Ronald Peigan. The Foundation is an independent, charitable non-profit corporation. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote the advancement of Indigenous legal education by providing scholarships to Indigenous students attending law programs in Canada. The Foundation’s objectives are to:

    • promote the advancement of education by providing scholarships to Indigenous students attending post-secondary law programs;

    • solicit and receive donations as a charitable organization to establish and expand the Foundation’s abilities to award grants and scholarships to further the academic aspirations of Indigenous students to pursue a legal career; and

    • do such other things as are necessary to further the above mentioned objectives.

    The Foundation awards two scholarships every year, each in the amount of $2,000.00. The scholarships will be presented each year to Indigenous law students that best demonstrate financial need, academic merit and commitment to Indigenous legal matters. The scholarships will be awarded during the IBA annual conference in October of each year.

  • Eligibility

    To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must:
