New Leadership and Thanks Outgoing President Drew Lafond for Outstanding Service
The Indigenous Bar Association in Canada (IBA) extends its heartfelt gratitude to outgoing President Drew Lafond for his remarkable 18 years of volunteer service on the IBA Board of Directors, including six (6) years as the IBA’s President. Drew’s leadership, commitment, and advocacy have left an enduring legacy in advancing Indigenous legal voices and supporting Indigenous legal professionals, students, and communities across Canada.
The IBA also wishes to thank the outgoing IBA Board members for their dedication and many contributions to the organization’s growth and continued success. Thank you to Krystal Anderson (IBA Student Representative), Stephanie Willsey, and Rheana Worme (former Treasurer), .
The IBA is pleased that the following members are continuing on the Board for the 2025-2026 term: Lori Mishibinijima, Melinda Moch, Victoria Perrie, Dominga Robinson, Cheryl Simon, and Ajay Winterburn.
In addition, the IBA welcomes the following new members to the Board: Zachery Anderson (IBA Student Representative), Ali Fontaine (IBA Student Representative), Ethan Guthro, Benjamin Ironstand, and Suzanne Patles.
The IBA is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive:
Ajay Winterburn (Partner, Aird & Berlis) has been elected as the new President
Victoria Perrie (Founder, Perrie Law) will serve as the new Vice-President
Melinda Moch (Associate, MLT Aikins) will serve as the new Secretary
Benjamin Ironstand (Articling Student, MLT Aikins) will serve as the Treasurer
Zackery Anderson (Articling Student with Cochrane Sinclair LLP) will serve as the Deputy Treasurer.
These individuals bring extensive experience, passion, and dedication to advancing Indigenous rights and representation within the legal profession.
In addition, the IBA is honoured to have Cindy Sunshine continuing to support the Board as our Executive Assistant. Cindy has been instrumental in helping with various IBA initiatives, including the successful completion of the recent Annual Conference.
