Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS), a non-profit legal aid society, operates Stand Informed legal advice forpeople who experience sexual assault and is relaunching our SHARP Workplaces legal clinic for people who experience sexual harassment at work in BC. CLAS is recruiting province-wide to add to our roster of lawyers to assist us in providing these services.

Scope of Legal Advice Services:

Lawyers will provide brief legal advice services to persons throughout BC who have experienced:

  • Sexual assault if joining Stand Informed (This service does not duplicate services available to complainants in criminal proceedings provided by Legal Aid BC.)

  • Sexual harassment at work if joining SHARP Workplaces.

Advice may be provided by phone, video, or in-person as agreed between the client and the lawyer.

Compensation

CLAS will compensate lawyers based on Legal Aid BC tariff hourly rates. Current Legal Aid tariff rates are: Less than 4 year call: $129.01/hour, 4 or more years and less than 10 years: $135.46/hour and 10+ years: $141.91/hour. If travel is required, expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with CLAS policy.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an insured practicing member of the Law Society of BC in good standing

  • Preference may be given to lawyers with:

    • Relevant practice experience relevant to the service such as: criminal, civil litigation, provincial human rights, federal human rights, employment and labour, workers compensation, immigration

    • Experience dealing with underserved or vulnerable populations, including Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2SIA+ people, racialized persons, persons with disabilities.

    • Experience and/or training in trauma-informed approaches and cultural competency.

Training will be provided free of charge in May/June 2025 through video conferencing and previously recorded sessions. While we are working on the training schedule, the following date has currently been confirmed: Thursday, May 22nd 1-4:30 pm. It is expected that there will be two further half-day sessions and additional lunch time sessions.
