Come join a talented group of professionals dedicated to the administration of justice.

Judicial Assistants are senior frontline representatives of the Court and Alberta Justice, supporting the judiciary, counsel, and litigants in the Alberta Justice system. You will be responsible for managing administrative functions related to members of the judiciary, including decision preparation, formatting, and filing; scheduling; arranging travel; calendar management, committee work, and other executive assistant duties as required. You will also provide back-up to the other Judicial Assistant positions.

Your excellent knowledge of the Court system, Court procedures and relevant legislation will allow you to identify and deal quickly with complex technical problems as they arise. You will ensure proper compliance with legislation, rules, practice notes and notices to the profession, while at the same time assisting in the efficient managing of matters before the court.

You will have daily contact with the judiciary, lawyers, Court personnel, unrepresented litigants and others. Your excellent interpersonal skills will be needed to liaise with these key stakeholders before, during, and subsequent to Court proceedings.

Competencies for these positions include: excellent communication and judgment, time management skills, attention to detail, punctuality, multi-tasking, ability to work independently and without supervision, conflict management, dependability, professionalism, diplomacy and a good working knowledge of law procedures and practices.

The successful candidates must act in a responsible and professional manner reflecting the fair and equitable delivery of justice in Alberta.

 

Qualifications

Two-year diploma in legal or office administration (or related field) and a minimum of one-year progressively responsible related experience as an Executive Assistant. Experience providing support to multiple stakeholders and working in a legal or court environment would be assets. Experience communicating in French fluently (orally and in writing) would also be an asset.

 

Candidates may be asked to do further testing. Equivalencies:

Additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of some education.

Salary

Temporary & Permanent: $2,042.85 - $2,511.73 bi-weekly ($53,318.00 to $65,556.00 annually) Wage: $ 28.18 - $34.64

 

Notes

We are hiring for 3 positions – 1 Permanent, 1 Temporary (1 year) & 1 Wage (6 months) available in Edmonton location. 

The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week. 

In your resume, please include dates (including months and years) associated with all education and work experience. Also, please indicate whether your work experience is casual, part-time or full-time. For example: January 15, 2006 - June 25, 2009: Assistant (PT three 8 hrs shifts/week).

This position will require final candidates to undergo a security clearance. You will also be required to:

  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.

  • Travel to other court offices may be required. Typing speed minimum of 50 wpm

  • This position requires bending, walking/taking the elevator to other floors within the courthouse and pushing/pulling a cart with files in it to these other floors

Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
