The IBA is proud to recognize long-time IBA Member Evelyn J. Baxter on her appointment to the bench.

The Indigenous Bar Association is proud to recognize long-time IBA Member Evelyn J. Baxter on her appointment to the bench. Justice Baxter is a member of Marten Falls First Nation. Her lived experience of First Nations issues and culture will be an asset to the judiciary that cannot be overstated. Justice Baxter will serve in Kenora.

Prior to her appointment Justice Baxter was an adjudicator for the Indian Residential Schools Independent Assessment Process – the federal tribunal adjudicating cases involving students who attended Indian Residential Schools. Over the past several decades she has been a sought-after speaker. Like many Indigenous
lawyers, Justice Baxter started her legal career at the University of
Saskatchewan at the Program of Legal Studies for Native People.
