The IBA Honours the Life of Joyce Thomas

August 11, 2019

It is with much sadness that the Indigenous Bar Association announces the tragic passing of Joyce Thomas.   Ms. Thomas was a member of the Kettle Point First Nation, which is located southwest of Ipperwash, Ontario.   She was a dedicated advocate for First Nation peoples and admired by her clients, colleagues, friends and family for her commitment to social justice.   Her kindness, generosity and social conscious will be greatly missed by the legal community.  Ms. Thomas’ gifts were an inspiration to many Indigenous lawyers and law students who she mentored from the University of Western.
