The IBA is a national organization which operates through the commitment and hard work of volunteers. With only one part-time staff person (IBA Administrator - Anne Chalmers
), we are only able to offer the various IBA programs and services thanks to thousands of hours of volunteer time each year from our members.
Indigenous Law School Graduates:
Committees:
The work of the IBA occurs largely through the activities of our Board of Directors and our Committees. Perhaps you would be interested in serving on a Committee, or putting your name forward to serve on the Board at the next AGM.
Public Speaking:
We are routinely asked to provide names for potential speakers for law schools, conferences and career fairs. Perhaps you would be interested in putting your name forward for these types of public speaking events.
Mentoring:
Newly called Indigenous lawyers, law students or pre-law students who have not yet entered law school often seek the guidance of a mentor. Perhaps you would be willing to serve as a mentor, offering guidance on academics, career choices, professionalism, managing a law practice, etc.
Newsletter:
We are now publishing a quarterly IBA newsletter which will feature articles from members regarding new case law, cutting edge legal and policy initiatives, practice points, etc. Perhaps you would like to volunteer to contribute to our newsletter.
Indigenous Law Students:
You are the future of the IBA. Your vision and energy keep our organization vibrant and responsive.
As a student member of the IBA you are welcome to volunteer to participate on IBA committees, to contribute to or work on the newsletter, to help organize events such as IBA Student Day, to serve as a mentor or to do public speaking to Indigenous students who may be interested in applying to law school, etc.
